2015-2016 Austin Heart Ball

2016 Austin Heart Ball Honorary Chairman

Bill Powers

The American Heart Association is pleased to announce the selection of Bill Powers as the Honorary Chairman for the 2016 Heart Ball of Austin. Mr. Powers holds the Joseph D. Jamail Chair in Tort Law at the University of Texas at Austin. He also serves of counsel at Jackson Walker L.L.P. Mr. Powers has been serving the Austin community for nearly four decades, including as a professor and dean in the University Of Texas School of Law, and most recently as the second-longest serving president in UT Austin history (2006-2015).

The honor is especially meaningful to Mr. Powers as he was instrumental in establishing the new Dell Medical School, which seeks to transform the way Texans get and stay healthy. Thanks to the support of local citizens, and in collaboration with community partners, the Dell Medical School embodies the creativity and innovating excellence for which Austin is known. In addition to helping establish the new Dell Medical School, Mr. Powers oversaw a project to reform the undergraduate curriculum, the creation of the School of Undergraduate Studies, and a historic $3.1 billion capital campaign.

His passion to better our community has led him to support several charities, including The Boy Scouts – Capital Area Council, the Austin Humane Society and the Blanton Museum of Art. This year, we honor Mr. Powers for his leadership and commitment to making Austin a better, healthier place to live.

Please join us on May 7th to pay tribute to Bill Powers and to celebrate the impact of the American Heart Association in Austin and throughout Texas.
