Leadership

A Message from Our Chair

Every single day in our community, the American Heart Association is working to educate our citizens about living healthier lives, working with health care providers to strengthen standards of patient care, advocating for policies that promote public health, and of course, funding world-class cardiovascular research.  These efforts—YOUR efforts—are transforming our community and making Central Texas a healthier place to live.

There are no quick fixes for the challenges we face, whether it’s stemming the childhood obesity epidemic or eliminating tobacco use.  The changes we seek will result from our determined efforts to improve our region’s health day by day, generation to generation.   Through the decades, we have seen mortality rates for heart disease and stroke continue to decline.  In keeping with the American Heart Association’s stated 2020 goal, we can build on this success by actually improving the cardiovascular health of all Americans.

There is much work ahead, but the fruits of our labors will be realized by our children, their children and generations into the future.

 Yours in health,

Malcolm Belisle
